MY STRATEGY TO MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO LEARN MATHEMATICS BY INSERTING THE HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS ?

Most of students think that Mathematics is a difficult lesson, although Mathematics most consist of number and symbol, actually, mathematics is enjoy learning. We can think abstract and develop our reasoning thinking.
As a mathematics teacher candidate, we should give motivate to our students in order to enjoy to learn mathematics, such us by telling story about the history of mathematics. They are going to more interest by some stories. So, the students not feel bored because always dominate with symbol and number. By telling story, the students could know the history of scientist in Mathematics and they can learn everything to motivate them from that scientist. There are some ways to inserting the history. For example: we are going to explain about Pythagorean Theorem.
We also can make a group discussion to discuss another way to prove Pythagorean Theorem. There are many ways to prove the Pythagorean Theorem. So, the students can think critically and can develop their reasoning thinking. They can browse from the internet to find sources to prove Pythagorean Theorem. They can develop and improve by their knowledge that they got before. Besides that, we can construct a theatrical drama about the life experience of Pythagoras after learning the history life of Pythagoras. We can divide the students to make a group and construct a drama about the history life of the famous mathematician. Such us: Euclid, Pythagoras, and etc. I think the students will be more interested to learn mathematics. Because, they can role directly as Mathematician. So, they can more passion to study mathematics. I think, that’s some of ways to inserting the history of mathematics. That’s some joyful learning that must be applied by the teacher in teaching and learning process. In order to the students not bored when they got mathematics lesson in their school. So, the students never think again about the nightmare of mathematics. Mathematics will be enjoyable lesson if we applied that in our teaching and learning process. By learning from the history of mathematics, we can learn all the positive aspects from the mathematician. So, the students more spirit to study mathematics.
Besides that, we can post or write some articles about the history of mathematics in the wall magazine in class. Example; we can post or write the history of number in once a week and then in next week we can post or write about the history of calculus and soon in every week. By post or write some articles, the students can improve their knowledge, so the students has expand knowledge about the history of mathematics.
